Just done some more research on the areo advert and found the following information....

The 60-second spot, 'Feel the Bubbles', features the trickery of Bob Burnquist, a vertical ramp specialist and winner of countless X-Games.  It is also directed by Ty Evans, a man widely recognised and celebrated as the best skateboarding cinematographer in the industry. Shot at the 40,000 square foot Lake Cunningham Skate Park in San Jose, California, the advert features 50,000 balloons that were blown up by 12 people over four full days. Each balloon was then placed in the skate park, to create a bubble filled environment.

Good job this is a TV advert..... 50,000 balloons in one place would be a nightmare! Don't fancy my chances.... I feel sorry for the four people whose job was to blow the balloons up...

Thanks for that Tamsin my hubby was trying to talk me going to Ikea tomorrow so will probably give it a miss. I hate going to that kind of place anyhow.
I was out in town with my daughter yesterday and saw balloons in Boots advertising no 7, and in Frasers well outside up high really large balloons the size of bouncing balls I think they used to be called. I don't know what they were trying to advertise as they had no writing on them from what I could see. I also saw balloons in the windows of clinton cards.

I tend to steer clear of shopping centres but as I say I was out with my daughter.

Ikea is always best avoided on a Sunday so think you are right to give it a miss Teddy  Grin

I also went in Clinton cards yesterday (without Sophie!) and their store was completely full of pink latex balloons  Angry

Hi Karen

Hope this finds you and Sophie well. I didn't go into any of those shops but I could see the balloons. Also today I was out with hubby and it was just a little shop to get bird seed etc to feed my birds and squirrels and the rest of the garden animals and the little shop was covered in balloons. Good job I sent hubby in.

It seems they are all around us and getting worse instead of lessening off.

Balloons everywhere in our town today.

A new Shoe Zone has opened and there were bright orange balloons all over the place  Angry  In fact it was like an obstacle course and we were dodging ballons constantly from other stores as well but not sure which as didn't hang around to see where they were from  Shocked

It sure seems to be getting worse especially on a Saturday.

Hi Karen and everyone on forum

We were over at my Mum's the other day and went to local TK Maxx in Linwood and as we drove there we noticed balloons all over the garages there selling cars.

What is it with balloons do the manufacturers really think that a tacky cheap and nasty penny balloon will make someone buy there products whether it be from an item from boots no 7 right up to advertising cars that cost 30,000+

Don't you think there is a sad 'BALLOON MENTALITY' out there and we need to try to do something more positive to get our voices heard. Like I say I just wish I had more time on my hands at the moment but I don't.

Just wonder if anyone at LASG itself can do anything to get some publicity about the dangers of balloons and be writing to parliament and all our MP's asking for balloons to be banned in public places due to health and safety issues. Just a thought.

I think we need good media coverage about balloons on as many programmes that would listen including local TV stations.

Something like Hayley I would like to get deeper in to if I just had the time to do it.

Moan over for this morning

In our town on Friday and saw balloons in Birthdays, Clinton cards, Superdrug and Waterstones.  Sophie wanted to look at the books in Waterstones as we have won a voucher to spend but the balloons were in the childrens section directly by the teenage section where she wanted to look, needlessly to say we made a swift exit  Angry

Teddy, we have a Dreams bed store and EVERY time we walk into town we have to go by and they always have loads of balloons tied all along the railings.  We have to cross the road and walk by very quickly  Roll Eyes

I am sure it is getting much worse.

Hi Karen

I had never heard of dreams beds before like you say there is one near you we were out a run and we were luckily in the car but they were tied to the railings just like you said.

I haven't been out shopping at main shops for a while so not been listing up where I see balloons. I am trying to shop in little towns where there are still some individual shops and I also shop at Morrisons and have had no bother with balloons lately. Thankfully. But like you say they are everywhere we look these days.

Take care and love to Sophie

Avoid Gunwarf Keys in Portsmouth as they have a chap who makes balloon animals for the kids... so where ever you walk within the complex you will run into kids with balloons.... Espeially at weekends..... also numerous shops inside complex which use balloons for promotions...

Hi Liz

The only reason I am not constantly posting on this topic is that I am trying to avoid city centres and shopping malls. I am trying to do my shopping in little local towns rather than face the gauntlet of balloons but I know everytime I do go to the centre or malls there are always balloons around.

I hate the fact that these are being given to children whose parents are obviously unaware of the potential danger.

I just hope that one day they will be banned and people will start to use healthier alternatives.

Take care Liz

I was in Nat West bank today and that was full of bright pink balloons, thankfully Sophie was not with me.  What possible reason could there be for a bank to put balloons up  undecided  Angry

We were in Gunwharfs Key a couple of weeks ago and did see some children with balloon animals.  Thankfully we wern't shopping there, went up the Spinnaker tower and luckily that was fine!

I went to a very rare night out with friends and there was balloons on all the tables. The management were happy to remove them before I went in.

It was a restaurant in town.

Teddy

With Christmas coming up we will see even more balloons than usual. They start putting them up in shopping malls and Boots chemist and superdrug and I see most of the phone shops seem to have balloons. I just try to avoid the places that have them.

In Glasgow Buchanan Galleries last year took all the balloons down in the actual shopping mall after I complained and explained why I was complaining so have not been there yet this year to see if they have remembered or not.

I try to do my Christmas shopping earlier to avoid as much shops as I can and the great thing is we can shop online nowadays something I used to say I would never do but it is so easy and no pushing and shoving from nasty people who seem to forget their manners in shops.

Does anyone else find that at Christmas time people turn into demons. Shocked

Take care all

I hope your partner tells your Boss to stop giving them away. We have to educate people to the dangers of latex allergy and of course to the dreaded balloons. Also Tesco should be adopting a latex free balloon policy. Make sure she knows about that.

Take care

Thompsons travel agetnts in Heswall both in the shop and tied to their placard on the pavement.  Along with the Clinton cards in Heswall who again had this on display.

Card shops seem to be dreadful for this.  Liverpool card shops very bad for balloon displays.

Debenhams in Wrexham also had balloons on display

Hi all

I have written a formal letter from LASG stating all the Health and Safety responsibilities etc re Latex Allergy to; Nestle, McDonalds, Boots, Phones4U, Sainsburys, Clinton Cards, B&Q, The Salvation Army, Frankie and Benny's, The Body Shop. BHS, Superdrug, Debenhams, Holland and Barrett, HMV, NEXT, Cancer Research, Waterstones, Birthdays, Dreams, NatWest, Thompson's Travel, Focus and the Children's Society and will now send letters to Thomas Cook, Comic Relief, Pizza Hut, IKEA, Edinburgh Wool Shop, Shoe Zone, Halifax Bank and Shell Garages.

I have had a few positive results the best being from NEXT. Some others are just sending the letter to the relevant person, so as usual that may be the bin, but we'll keep on keeping on.

The most disappointing has been the Olympic committee which has systematically ignored 3 contacts including one directly to Lord Coe! Very annoying, but I will keep going.  Regards to all Lesley LASG Smiley

You saw balloons in your local A&E??? That's absolutely ridiculous. Write to your MP, make a complaint and ask to see a copy of their latex policy.

I did this on one occasion about 10 years ago and I got a copy of the document. It didn't actually say anything. \just a load of blurb written by someone who quite obviously knew nothing about the subject.

Our local A&E now has a proper latex policy and I am in frequent touch with the health and safety officer.

Hi Bob,
Balloons were in an area which has been made Latex free or should I say latex safe etc. I have learnt from experience that nothing is ever latex free. Even more so A and E with all the people traffic. The reason for the balloons were it was someones leaving day. Whats worse the balloons were in the Paediactric area....and the nurses do not fully understand and hide behind the fact management have said they may call the area Latex free, ehem...A complaint did go into PALS.

I saw ballons in the entrance of the hospital I work at promoting a fund raising appeal. My risk management midwife was informed and I wrote an incident form. She contacted the guy who is charge of the appeal and I am waiting to hear what he said. She was extremly sympathetic and was glad that I had pointed this out as they are having a grand opening of one of the new childrens wards which this fundraising appeal has helped equipe. So hopefully there will be no latex balloons.
Also since Wednesday I have come to the conclussion that shopping in London is an extremly dangerous past time. My young daughter had to virtually become my carer as Krispy Kreame donuts, mcdonalds and Boots all had balloons in their shops.

Hi Teresa, Andy and All

It just seems that we can not go near a shop but there appears to be balloons everywhere. I try to avoid shopping centres if I can as you know they are going to be there in some of the shops.

I try to take my business elsewhere but not easier said than done if you need to buy a big item.

Take care all

It especially annoys me that hospitals have balloons no matter what the reason especially advertising health issues e.g. Smoking Cesation etc

Avoid Southampton West Quays Shopping Centre as Heart FM has a promotion going on and had numerous balloons as did multiple catering firms and other shops. Spoke to shopping centre management and they are not allowed to use mylar helium balloons due to fire system... Sad
Also phones 4U both shops outside West Quay had doorways with ropes of balloons....

So best to avoid....  As lots of balloons as well as having to avoid kids who have been given balloons by various shops....
