Theme Parks

Be careful at Thorpe Park as they have used latex balloons for several promotions recently including the opening of their hotel and preview evening. The engineers at the park use latex gloves, several of the rides use latex or latex derivatives in themeing and in the harnesses. Also over the Fright Night period they where promoting on their Facebook page zombie make up for guests visiting which involved using liquid latex with no warning about testing first to see if you where allergic. Or any guest visiting over the park over this period. They also use latex gloves in some of the food outlets so make sure to ask first!

At Chessington, Alton Towers and Legoland there is a similar set up with rides having latex or latex derivatives as part of the theming or in the harnesses. In some places you can see it is part of the carriage of the ride.

If anyone visits any of their parks and has issues the CEO details are: Nick Varney, Merlin Entertainments, 3 Market Close, Poole, Dorset, BH15 1NQ.

Thanks Liz, a letter will be winging its way to them later today.   They have obviously not seen the advice on the HSE site.

Thank you for sending the letter Bob. I have also sent them several letters and emails regarding their use of latex products and their responsibilities under COSHH and Health and Safety Act. I am currently waiting back to hear what they are going to do.

Have to say had a very poor response from Merlin Entertainments they are not going to do anything about the use of latex in their parks or attractions and are not concerned about their guests safety.
